The Taiwanese age rating board appears to have let slip when Gears Of War 5 will be released and what the box will look like.
With digital and physical sales now almost at 50/50 the term box art is going to start seeming pretty archaic soon, but since the image above does literally include the box let’s stick with that for now.
The art was found by Generación Xbox on the website for the Taiwanese age rating board, one of many countries who have unwittingly let slip important information simply by listing titles that were supposed to be a secret.
Gears 5 (for some reason Microsoft are dropping the ‘Of War’ part of the name) isn’t a secret of course, but the artwork does seem to give away at least one previously unmentioned plot point.
The box art confirms that Kait Diaz, who was introduced in 2016’s Gears Of War 4, will be the main character, with her portrait being front and centre.
You can also see, from top right to bottom right, existing characters Marcus Fenix, Delmont Walker, and JD Fenix.
On the left though is what seems to be Locust Queen Myrrah, which is a strangely spoilerific thing to put on the front of the box.
The actual age rating on the box is clearly the American ESRB system too, so it’s possible maybe the Taiwanese website mistakenly used a piece of fan art for some reason.

The Taiwanese listing doesn’t give a release date for the game but according to Generación Xbox it’s out on 10 September.
As far as we can tell (the site’s in Spanish) they don’t give a source for the date though, which is a month or so earlier than you might normally expect for a big Christmas release.
Whatever’s going on we should find out a lot more about the game at E3 next month, although Microsoft has already confirmed it is a 2019 release.
